205? Title?? 21 Mar, 2008 / Comments: 13

A little cat whispered in me ear that the title for the season finale is What's New, Beelzebub?

Sounds like it'll take place in a tropical paradise to me!

Would it be possible to NOT refer to the episodes by their numbers?! (Please!)

Since a rumour of the title was the reason for this news post, what should I have called it? Just used the title and let you guess what the hell I was talking about? :)

    ... why?

It's unnecessarily obtuse: "205 released today"?! Why not "Sam & Max Episode 5" or "Sam & Max: Season 2, Episode 5"? For a website that covers lots of different companies and games, just calling something "205" (not even "Sam & Max 205") is a bit silly.

    But I'll get over it.

imagine you're browsing gamespots game database. The ordering would go ...

    Ep1 Culture Shock
    Ep1 Ice station Santa
    Ep2 moai better blues
    Ep2 situation comedy
Ep3 mole the mob and the meatball, the
Ep3 night of the raving dead
    Ep4 abe Lincoln must die
    Ep4 chariots of the dogs

    Etc etc

Also those sites are unlikely to title every episode "Sam and max season 5 episode 2" over and over. The TV style episode numbering made the most sense to us for many reasons.

(its legibility when used in shorthand on a mega-fan. Site like Mojo wasn't one of those considerations, because everyone here knows what it means without further to do. Does it grind your gears when people say CMI, an acronym equally indescipherable to Joe Google who happens to link in with no context?)

Note: I completely understand why TELLTALE would user TV style numbering. But on GamesSpot you'd be browsing Sam & Max games, so it would be clear. It makes perfect sense.

I just think it's obtuse for Mojo to report "205" with zero mention of Sam & Max in the headline, is all.

There's zero context! That's my only issue. 205 could refer to anything! I don't mind the TV style numbering, I just mean that even SM205 would at least make reference to Sam and Max.

SOME reference to Sam and Max in the headline would be preferable, really. When reading my RSS feeds, I had no idea that "205" was referring to anything to do with TellTale or Sam and Max, for example.

It just seems unnecessarily obtuse for Mojo to report like that, is all.

I do try to make a conscious effort to put "Sam & Max" before an episode number in a headline, but note that so far this is the only Telltale series that has run in such a way as to require a numbering system. Therefore saying 205 shouldn't be obtuse to anyone familiar with the site, because Sam & Max is the only thing it can be referring to. When Telltale has multiple series in development it will obviously make more sense to make sure people know what we're talking about.

Fair enough. I guess all I can say then is that I'd prefer it :) That's all.

Sirs, this had best not be a spoiler for the fourth episode I have not finished yet.
