It Belongs In a Museum: Grim Fandango is Modern Art 01 Dec, 2012 / 3 comments

New York's Museum of Modern Art's New Video Game Exhibition is beginning with 14 video games from the 1980's to the 2000's. However, they eventually intend to extend that collection with more games over the next few years, including Grim Fandango.

For the full game list, including the games planned for the future, check out the Museum of Modern Art's post about the exhibit.

I agree with The Sims being there, it's the first of its kind. Now, two games by Will Wright? That's the questionable bit.
"Are video games art? They sure are, but they are also design, and a design approach is what we chose for this new foray into this universe. The games are selected as outstanding examples of interaction design"
and "This acquisition allows the Museum to study, preserve, and exhibit video games as part of its Architecture and Design collection."
I think this explains their curatorial intentions pretty well and it makes perfect sense.

I suppose most of the games on there are acceptable... I just can't wrap my head around "The Sims" being art.
