Yeah, having read the first Fables trade paperback, and reading that the comic's creator confirmed that the game is canon with the comics, the scene in question really threw me for a loop. It will be interesting to see how they resolve that.

I just got through the second one, and there's a good explanation of how at least it partly will be resolved there. Just not... the parts.

Great game. For the record, I played the PC-version and didn't really notice any of the technical difficulties mentioned in the review. The action sequences are easy enough with mouse and keyboard (in fact, they're almost impossible to lose, which might prove a problem in future episodes as well...), and no framerate troubles or anything like that. I guess you stumble upon a load screen a bit too often, but it's nothing game breaking.

Anyway, about the episode itself: it's pretty damn awesome. I have to admit that I wasn't that hyped - I've been following Telltale since the beginning, and even though I still enjoyed their recent games I kinda figured I got everything I was ever going to get out of them. Still, the writing, animation, graphics, music, all of that seems to have improved. Made me enthusiastic about Telltale in a way I haven't been in quite a while. Love the atmosphere, someone over at Telltale must have been watching Drive. Great music, great colours. Didn't really notice any puzzles (only different approaches to certain situations), but that's fine with me. You can't keep comparing these games to the old Lucasarts games forever.

Looking forward to the other episodes, and more importantly, looking forward to more Sam & Max. The graphic style of this game combined with the original artwork of Steve Purcell sounds incredible. They should finally be able to get really, really close to how that world looks in the comic. Wolf Among Us looks incredible in that regard, especially Snow's/Crane's office.

There's a scene which (from what I've read) doesn't fit with the canon at all, though I assume that'll be logically wrapped up in some way or other, seeing the creators of the comic were involved in the production of the game.

    Nice review for a hack.

But no, I was actually fairly excited for this series, and the review confirms my suspicions that it delivers. Looking forward to having free time to dig into this.

Great review. I honestly expected the action sequences to be a bit off, but I have faith that Telltale will eventually sort that out - and thanks to their business model, that improvement could come at any time. I agree, we play adventure games for the story, and I'm really looking forward to experiencing this one.

An amendment for those who've actually read the comics and care about these things: This is apparently a prequel, and it's supposed to be canon. There's a scene which (from what I've read) doesn't fit with the canon at all, though I assume that'll be logically wrapped up in some way or other, seeing the creators of the comic were involved in the production of the game.
