Psychonauts: Rhombus of Ruin at PSX 2016 08 Dec, 2016 / 4 comments

Yeah, I don't know what PSX is either, but Psychonauts: Rhombus of Ruin was apparently available to play there, and consequently a bunch of new previews popped up. Here's a list:

- GamesRadar
- Game Revolution
- Blasting News

Boy, that sure seems like some kind of video game!

As much as I love Double Fine and Psychonauts, I can't see myself putting down $400,- for a ps4 and another $400,- for a VR set.

I have a PS4, and was considering getting the VR set, but then, it seems a bit extreme to get it just for Psychonauts. It's interesting that Schafer has said they made the game with the characters sitting down because he (as many others) get motion sick from anything with full movement. Does that mean every game from Double Fine will feature characters sitting down?

Not being flippant about it, I get motion sick, too, but that in itself is a reason why VR in general has a long way to go.

Yesterday I actually played that Star Wars Battlefront VR thing (hey that's Mojo related right?) at my friend's place, and it's probably the coolest thing I've seen in ages. Truly mesmerizing. You're in an X-Wing during the mission, so obviously you're sitting down, but you're also flying around and doing all kinds of crazy stuff, and I figured you'd get motion sickness from that very quickly. After all, you're in space. That didn't happen to me though, I was surprised how 'fluid' it felt.

I was sitting down while I was playing, so that might have helped, but being able to move in pretty much any direction felt fine for me there. Still, while I think PSVR is really cool, I think it might be worth it to wait a while before getting it, if you're not sure. It's a bit of an investment after all. I think the second generation will work out all (or some) of the teething issues, and developers will have had the chance to wrap their heads around how to develop for this thing. It is genuinely different after all.

Still, if the money isn't an issue for you, it is a very fun toy to play around with.

Luckily I have some friends with more money than sense, so I'll play it at their place. Looking forward to this!
