Old news is back!

06 Dec, 2011, 16:19 | Posted by: Zaarin

Ever wondered what the first post of 2003 was about but was too afraid to ask? Now you can see for yourself! Who posted that Bill Tiller left LEC? Now you can find out!

These and more nuggets of gold can be found in our relaunched news archive! There are a few months gone here and there, but what is Mojo without the downtime, eh? There's a second link to it at the bottom of the page, for those adventurous souls that scroll all the way.

In other news, clicking the category icons will finally show you news posts in that category again. It's like 2009!

This is ridiculous, and pretty scary. As Kroms said, lots of embarrassing stuff in there.

Also: Looks like a lot of posts are misassigned. A good test case: The first post in the browseable archive -- the post titled "An interview with... me!" -- is credited to DJG when, based on its contents, was posted by Narrative (aka Matt Shaw).

The names are taken from the old "updaters" table of Mojo 9 so they should be the same. I can have a look at them tomorrow.

It is possible Matt posted as DJG by mistake. Seen any more posts with the wrong author?

Other errors I know of are unclosed tags at the end of posts. There's a month somewhere where half the posts are in italics.

What's more likely is that there was a slip in the database at some point and the updaters table was changed or wiped or something, between Mojo 7 and 8, or 8 and 9. It wouldn't be surprising if there was some method to the madness...

I had a look. The old news table didn't use updater ID, but usernames, and DJG is set as the author of that news post. It looks like the news before 2002 was imported at a later time into the database (higher ID numbers) and that some of the pre-Mojo 9 updaters weren't added as updater. Narrative has no account, for example. Maybe news posts with missing authors were set to DJG by default?

That makes sense (because DJG is probably the first/default updater in the old database) and is also a bummer.

Man, I spent a few minutes reading trough the comments of "Another year, another Monkey Island rumour" from 2009 with The Tingler's hilarious comment to the rumour that LEC would revive an old frachise
"I bet it's Star Wars. They haven't done that in a while."
which I still remember for some odd reason. As well as reading trough the announcement of tales and the SE editions and all of the comments.
That was really a very happy time for me, one I'll cherish forever and it brings a smile to read the comments. Everything was happier then, I wish those days never would have ended.
The future used to be something to look forward to.

Ah, well. Hopefully Ronzo's game will be awesome.
