Mojo reviews Broken Sword: The Serpent's Curse 06 Dec, 2013 / 7 comments

So let's address the elephant in the room here: Yes, Mojo is reviewing Broken Sword 5. No, Revolution is not part of the greater LEC-family of companies. Yes, this is part of an expansion of Mojo. No, we're not turning into a general adventure site.

What we are doing is broadening our focus just a tiny little bit. To put our mission-statement-of-sorts in the words of our idea smith, Thrik: “Mojo: Classic LucasArts adventure games, and games that are similar to them.” We'll be covering everything we've always covered, while adding a handful of other games that make sense within Mojo's spiritual scope. Broken Sword for example. Dyscourse, where Tim Schafer is a character. That kinds of stuff. Derivative adventure games that try to ape the success of LucasArts in the 1990s without understanding what they were actually about? We will not cover those.

So basically we're turning into Just Mixnmojo+-ish and we're feeling good about that. Hopefully you will too.

And what better way to kick this off than by reviewing Broken Sword 5? Remember: Mojo still loves you!

This is a fun game. It's surprisingly long for a single episode. The puzzles are a bit easy, but the story is engaging and the backgrounds are pretty breathtaking. Can't wait for the next episode.

As for the new policy - I'm all for it. It's not like we are getting any Lucasarts games to talk about. :(
Did you guys do a review for the Silver Lining or that Leisure Suit Larry Remake? If not, you should.

Nice game, really give the feel of first 2 games though animation could be better.

Branching out to these 'revival' adventure games should be fine. They fit quite well into Mojo's nostalgic themes.

I hope you're planning on reviewing the new Gabriel Knight game, when that comes out, as well.

Don't worry, if no one else claims it, I certainly will. I'm Mojo's resident Sierra fan. :)

Seriously, what have you been smoking lately, for Christ's sake?!

I believe this is a question for eT!

Well, the LucasArts fan in me is so outraged that I had to create an account just to spit it out in your faces. This is unacceptable and all of you Mojo guys and gals should feel ashamed of yourselves. Seriously, what have you been smoking lately, for Christ's sake?!

Then again, given that a) Being an active member has no doubt many benefits, like calling you names, for instance, and b) since LucasArts as a developer doesn't even exist anymore, the arrival of a few more titles or developers to the Mojo catalogue are likely to be welcome additions.

Good job! I'm off to read the review now.
