Mixnmojo Podcast #9 16 Mar, 2010, 23:57 / 20 comments

This week we talk about Monkey Island 2 Special Edition (including which version of Monkey Island 1 is the best), Sam & Max: The Devil's Playhouse (including the question "is Max gay?"), and Ghost Pirates of Vooju Island (Bill Tiller's new game; mild spoilers included).

You can download it here (1:08 hrs, 62mb). The jingle was by Goblin, and the musical "bed" is from Bart Klepka's Barbary Coast Booty Remix.

Incidentally, apologies for the news post below that for some reason decided to jump ahead in time by 8 years. We think someone might have accidentally brushed against some tables in the database... let's hope that's the case anyway, and that it's not the site falling apart again!

ATMachine made one good point though - Gabez sounds like CP30 :)

Also, hello, I'm commenting as I'm listening. Jason, in "Monkeys Violating the Heavenly Temple" there are some references to Sam being a bit sensitive about his weight.

Heh. That makes me feel better. Clearly, it's time for me to read Surfin' the Highway again.

Also, for all that is good and holy, please watch this, Gabez: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xes0F36eTJA

As I said on the podcast, I know what the guy in Sam & Max is supposed to be a parody of, but that doesn't make me like it any more.

Though I will say that I prefer the narrator in that video to the one in the Sam & Max trailer.

Gabez makes a great beatbox. I hope MI2:SE's soundtrack will be purely Gabez humming the music.

I'm also 22.. spooky! But I did grow up playing them, thanks to my older brother and sister.

Amiga versions of Monkey Island 1 & 2 were always the best even many would say the soundtrack was better then the PC version and yes MI 2 was on 11 disks but it was worth the disk swaps (unless you had a hard drive unlike me)

You had an Amiga hard drive? You bastard!

    Way to read.

How about adding it to the iTunes feed then? Was looking forward to this but the iTunes feed is a must since my iPod completely messes manually downloaded podcasts for some reason.
  • Gabez on 18 Mar, 2010, 18:54…
It is on the iTunes feed... but because of a Mojo 9 scripting error, the date was set wrong, and the podcast was listed as number 2 rather than number 1.

That was a really good podcast..although I completely disagree with gave assessment of the sam & max games
  • hierohero on 17 Mar, 2010, 07:25…
That's meant to be Gabez but my iPhone obviously doesn't like saying his name..also had no idea you guys were 22 thought u would all be older
  • Gabez on 17 Mar, 2010, 08:31…
I think my assessment was just that I wasn't a big fan of the Sam & Max games... I also had a theory that the games appealed to Americans more. Was that what you were disagreeing with?

    Glad you liked the podcast.
  • The Tingler on 18 Mar, 2010, 06:33…
As you've probably know by now, I disagree about appealing to Americans more! It's okay not to like Sam & Max Gabez, be proud of it! I can't stand The Dig or Zak McKracken, and don't particularly like Full Throttle or Maniac Mansion either.
  • hierohero on 18 Mar, 2010, 00:58…
Yeah I disagree with the American thing..sam & max was always big in Australia..I think your ability to get Sam & Max really relates to your sense of humour.. I also think the games still capture the spirit of Steve's comics..
  • Udvarnoky on 17 Mar, 2010, 01:14…
I didn't listen to this because I was there, but I think I remember claiming that I'd have the Ghost Pirates review up by the time this got posted, and I just wanted to acknowledge being a liar.

I hope to lie on more occasions in the future; stay tuned.
