LucasArts celebrate Star Wars by refusing to release games in chronological order 28 Jun, 2009, 13:59 / 9 comments

So on the 7th, we get Tales of Monkey Island - then, a week later it's The Secret of Monkey Island: Special Edition.

Well, at least if this is to be believed. Thanks to Nickelstein over on our forum for pointing this out.

As many of you have mentioned, releasing the Special Edition after TMI seems like a bad move on LucasArts' part. The game is clearly ready to roll, and it's a digital distribution so... what's the wait?

But LucasArts are experts on the adventure game marketplace, and I can't even figure out what time the sun sets on Melee Island. So we'll wait and see on this one, I suppose...

But yeah, let's not end this on a sour note: the preliminary report is that MI:SE will be available from the 15th of July, and that is awesome.

I don't really care. I'm probably playing SE before Tales anyway.

During fridays playthrough Lucasarts said that they'll be revealing a secret during the one next week.

Naturally wild speculation assumes that it'll be the release date

It might even be an announcement for another platform... this is what Craig Derrick said in an interview from today:

"Well, we never said we wouldn’t be on Wiiware or PSN now did we? The truth is, though, Xbox Live offers a great user experience and downloadable service to gamers and we think it’s a great platform to launch the game on. And, of course, the game will also be available on PC via digital download, plus we may have another platform announcement to make very, very soon."

I don't think so...? Unless MS put money into MI:SE (which they might have done, I guess), I don't think they'd have any say?

Ah, yeah, what Custard said. We both posted at around the same time, so ignore me.

It's MS who decides at what time every title on Live Arcade gets released, just like Nintendo does with Wiiware and Sony does with PSN. I guess the releasedate of the PC-version is entirely up to Lucasarts, but I can think of several reasons why they would want the PC and 360-version to release at the same time.

Well, Microsoft decide the release dates on Xbox Live Arcade, and then Lucasarts wants to release on PC and XBLA on the same day? If anything, I imagine that's the case.

I think Microsoft get a far bigger say as to when it's released, especially since they're putting it in the Summer of Arcade series.
