GOG releasing next batch of LucasArts classics...and they're all Star Wars 20 Jan, 2015 / 15 comments

GOG has announced a second wave of six LucasArts games to be made available beginning this week. Yawn your way through the following selection!

- Star Wars: X-Wing Alliance
- Star Wars: Galactic Battlegrounds Saga
- Star Wars: X-Wing Vs. Tie Fighter
- Star Wars: Dark Forces
- Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic II
- Star Wars: Battlefront II

Because if there's one game that Earth's population has struggled to find at a decent price over the last fifteen years, it's KOTOR 2. Thank goodness our prayers have been answered.

Look, I get it. These are well regarded games, and they deserve to be re-released. But generally, you treat the guy who's in cardiac arrest before the guy whose foot fell asleep.

You ain't funny, GOG. Give us a better reason to wait next time, please. These reasons should feel free to be spelled exactly like Day of the Tentacle or Full Throttle.

    Rum Rogers

And Zak Mckracken, but who really cares about that one.

    Many people do, believe me!

Outside of Germans I mean. I assume every household over there already has a copy that they'll play during their Zak-themed nation holiday, while they spend the rest of the year diligently making sequels in AGS.

But yeah, I meant that I personally don't really care for it. It'd be nice to have just to complete my digital collection, but after Monkey 3 and 4 (and the DF remakes) I actually have working copies of all the Lucas-games I need. That's pretty weird!

Although I also would really dig it if they'd release Outlaws again.

I would expect Grim Fandango, and DOTT to be on hold due to the Special Editions that are forthcoming. Full Throttle is likely on Schafer's radar too, so may also be off limits.

Edit: As has been said several times already in this thread. Heh.

The 3rd wave on Thursday and 4th wave next week are all Star Wars related from what I've read on the GOG forums. It even states it in the GOG email I got about this.

I am hoping for Shadows of the Empire.

If we assume Maniac Mansion will still be playable in the Day of the Tentacle remake, and Full Throttle remake is next (not unlikely since both Schafer and Sony indicated they wanted to do more, and that's the only Shafer-adventure that's left), the only Lucas adventures that haven't been rereleased on either Steam or GoG are Monkey 3 and 4. And Zak Mckracken, but who really cares about that one.

So yeah, I figure they'll save Tentacle and Throttle for the DF remakes, and they might rerelease Monkey 3 and 4, but I can imagine them wanting to wait and see if there's anyone willing to remake them, or if they'll release them alongside a new Telltale/DF game in a couple of years, depending on the reception of the first two DF remakes.

Monkey 3 would be difficult/expensive to make a significant remaster of though.

Surely there'll be no DOTT or Full Throttle because special editions are likely to be coming to GOG soon, anyway.

It's better than nothing at all.

Certainly, but that sentiment clocks in at a 0% snark value. Mojo Management requires certain minimums be met. They dock my pay otherwise. It's an ugly system.

No need to worry too much though, the third wave is coming on Thursday, and there's likely to be some non-Star Wars games in there.

Glad to know I misinterpreted. I was reading this as being one batch being released in two installments. Hopefully we do indeed get some more spirited choices in the next round.

    Bad Asp!

    "Some"?

Technically, they only made some, yes. They published all of them though...

I was worried that people might have forgotten about LucasArts Star Wars games. Thank you GOG, for reminding us that LucasArts also made some Star Wars games.
